The Most Representative Garmet – The Savvy Leather Jacket

It’s no secret that the savvy leather jacket has become the most versatile staple in anyone’s wardrobe.  A garment that is now considered “a classic” was once introduced as a trend, but because of its versatility and broad appeal, the leather jacket has worked its way into every wardrobe and always remains popular.  Traditional, general simple styling means that a true classic can be worn year after year and never date.

A snug-fitted leather jacket is the perfect collaboration to that classic feminine flirty piece, a tunic, skinny jeans or zipped over a flimsy dress with black opaque tights for a tough/tender look.  Fun, yet functional, the end result is a collection that will eventually be a staple in your wardrobe.

Just remember though, the best way to wear this garment is of course how you take this piece and make it your own.  There is a jacket for everyone!

Truth or Dare

After the success of Madonna’s Material Girl teen line for Macy’s, the iconic queen of pop is in the process of yet again launching another fabulous collection since her 2007 M by Madonna Collection at H&M.

The global lifestyle brand, which will be named after her controversial 1991 Madonna: Truth or Dare (In Bed with Madonna) documentary, is aimed towards Madonna’s core fan base between the ages of 27 and 50 who posses a “timeless style and an innate sex appeal”.

The joint venture, among Iconix Branch Group, Madonna and Guy Oseary, is the second brand to be launched under the MG Icon.  MG Icon will be partnering with Macy’s for the first initial launch worldwide in 2012.  In 2013, the collection will be distributed more widely at all leading department stores in the US.

“Truth or Dare” by Madonna was created to showcase the dichotomy that is Madonna, both powerful icon and feminine beauty.  The brand will initially begin by launching perfume and then later expand to include footwear, bags, accessories, and intimates with Madonna herself being the face of all advertisement.

Neil Cole, Chief Executive Officer of Iconix Brand Group, stated…

The interest and excitement globally for brands developed by Madonna are significant. After the highly successful launch of the junior brand Material Girl, we knew there would be a tremendous demand for a brand that Madonna herself is the face of and that truly captures her essence.

Madonna seems genuinely excited about the joint venture saying to WWD:

Over the past several years, I have been approached countless times to create my own brand. The timing is right and I have found great partners in Iconix, who can help translate my vision to reality.

The former Material Girl, dominatrix, hippie, turned Material Mum, yoga guru, producer and children’s book author can now add successful fashion designer to her long list of talents.

What trend do you love right now? Tell us about it!

Bianca Jagger made historic fashion waves by sporting a white Yves Saint Laurent blazer at her high-profile 1970’s wedding to Rolling Stones musician Mick Jagger.  Little did she know that whilst her outfit of choice caused much controversy at the time, it would change the direction of women’s fashion transitioning between masculine and feminine style.

This year’s designers are influenced by the glamorous tailoring and feminine sex-appeal of the uber-flattering pant suit.  This androgynous style reflects a sense of power mixed with a hint of femininity and makes men go gaga.  Think of the steamy, pulse racing alley sex scene in the 1986 movie “9 ½ Weeks”, where Kim Basinger sports a men’s suit whilst seducing Mickey Rouke at a men’s only club.

It was Yves St. Laurent who brought the fashion world to its knees by pairing the suit jacket with pants down the runway in 1962 and a variation of the suit has appeared on the YSL catwalk every season from then on.

Sexy screen sirens such as Marlene Dietrich, Katherine Hepburn, Diane Keaton and Angelina Jolie have been big fans of this menswear look in the past and more recently, the Olsens representing The Row suit at the CFDA Awards in New York and the lovely Mila Kunis in a Boca Negra suit attending the Cosmopolitan Magazine’s Fun Fearless Males of 2011 Awards.

So, if you’re in the mood to try this menswear inspired style, which allows you to emphasise your body shape and bring out its best assets, stay feminine by avoiding pieces that resemble a shapeless male suit.  Keep it feminine with the highest heels you can get your hands (draw inspiration from Christian Lauboutin Pigalle heels 2011 collection), add a style staple leopard print clutch and a well cut fitted jacket nipped in at the waist.  A good rule to follow is, if the jacket is loose, the pants should be fitted and vice versa.
