A vast change that has appeared in the fashion industry over the last year has been the influx of bright hue colours that flourished the autumn/winter fashion trends right through to the upcoming season of summer.
This wave of colour stems from the revolutionary red trousers having originated from last years A/W 2010-11 street style that had us seeing red from every direction including Riccardo Tisci’s head-to-toe red trouser suit in his Givenchy collection.
Red-hot trousers are yet again in full swing this season becoming as versatile as blue jeans and adding a “pop of colour” to an otherwise drab wardrobe.
Teamed with a white T and flats for a relaxed feel, or mixed with prints and platforms for that wow factor, this bright hue, which has been interpreted into wide-leg trousers and skinnier cuts, has been spotted on many fashion-forward celebrities and fashionistas alike.
So out with the fail-safe tedious black colours ladies and in with the bright hue jackets, coats and trousers, as colour is here to stay and will run for many years to come.
Military remains in fashion for both men and women in Autumn/Winter 2010-11, with inspiration drawn from the 1940s and 50s military. A particularly popular military-themed trend is the army and air force influenced combat boot for men’s fashion. These shoes come in a variety of styles, from military to motorcycle boots, that can match any sense of style.
Re-introduced by Christopher Bailey’s Burberry Autumn collection in 2010, the trend of the combat boot remains chunky and utilitarian essential for the colder seasons.
Perfect with this season’s chunky knits, checked flannel shirts or a pair of Diesel jeans, this timeless rustic vintage style can pretty much be worn to any occasion. As shown below, actor Hayden Christensen was recently spotted in Los Angeles wearing a pair of military side zip boots that are right on trend.
This look can easily be dressed up or down and incorporated into many different styles. Pair a sleek military-style jacket with dark jeans and a sweater for an outfit that is simple and nostalgic, yet still masculine.
A key characteristic of popular trends is that they occur in 20 year cycles. The Milestone years to pay attention to this year will be the 70s, 50s, and 1930s.
But for the 2011 Spring/Summer collections displayed, it’s the 1970s that are due for a reinterpretation. The fully-fledged 1970s glam vibe championed by Tom Ford in the 1990s is finally back!
